Restricted Area Trek of Nepal

Though tourism is the highest contributor to Nepal’s GDP, some parts of the country remains closed for tourists and famous for restricted area trek of Nepal. The restricted areas are strictly controlled by the government bodies. Therefore, the treks are more tedious compared to the other treks as the travel let itself consumes time followed with official rules. It is compulsory to travel with a liaison officer and pay for a special permit consisting of a group with not less than 2 people and the required staff. The main reason behind the restricted areas is to conserve the natural and ethnic cultural environment from the outer-world influence.

Since, the areas are closed to outsiders; it doesn’t have any access to lodges, tree-houses. Therefore, you need to well-equipped with tents, cook, support staffs and much more. We at Skyline treks and Expedition have been arranging hassle free treks to the restricted areas since more than a decade; we take care of everything starting from acquiring permit to these regions to support staffs, tents and food.

Fees for our most popular trekking packages to the restricted areas-

For a minimum of 10 day treks in the Forbidden land of Mustang normally starts from $90 per week for accessing the areas of Humla and Manaslu. You also need to pay for a governmental officer to go with you throughout the trek.

Permits and Formalities

As discussed above, trek to a restricted area needs arranged as a fully equipped and well-organized trek through a registered trekking agency. The trekking agency looks into acquiring permit through a tedious process of applications, guarantees, letters that takes up to 2 weeks. The process itself can only be started only 21 days before the arrival of the trekking group. You cannot trek alone in these regions; moreover some areas have a limit on the number of trekkers per season. There isn’t any system of advance reservation now, and no clear sign of what will happen if the quota is reached.
