Manaslu Trek Overview
Manaslu trek also known as ‘Manaslu Baraha Pokhari Trek’ offers most amazing Himalayan views from the ridges that lies southwest of the world’s eighth highest ‘Manaslu’ peak. Besides the Himalayan panorama, the trek equally rewards with experiences of monasteries, maniwalls, chortens and other Buddhist religious landmark.
The Manaslu trek trail passes through the paddies and terraces of picturesque Gurung and Tamang villages, surrounding rhododendron forests. However, the main goal of our Manaslu trek is to reach ‘Baraha Pokhari, known to be worshipped by Nepalese witch doctors for special power. Besides the natural panorama, the region is equally known for great wildlife experience. You can see Himalayan Black Bear, Wooly Hare and Himalayan Ghoral and several other medicinal and aromatic plants in its dense forests. However, the monks around the areas are highly motivated to protect the wildlife of the area, so hunting is strictly banned.
Manaslu – ‘Mountain of Spirit’ renowned as world’s eighth highest mountain also offers a variety of trekking options. The mountain’s long ridges and valley glaciers offer possible approaches from all directions, and culminate in a peak that towers steeply above its surrounding landscape, and is a dominant feature when viewed from afar. Trekking in Manasluregion was made legal to foreigners only in 1991; therefore, the region remains completely uninfluenced by the outer-world. The trekking trail follows an ancient salt-trading route along the Budhi Gandaki river, skirting the Manaslu massif over the pass down to Annapurna. En route, we enjoy glimpses of 10 peaks over 6,500 meters (21,300 ft), including a few over 7,000 meters (23,000 ft). The highest point reached along the trek route is the Larkya La at an elevation of 5,235 meters.
Trekking in the Manaslu region is already popular among trekkers seeking for an ultimate acquaintance with Nepal’s remotest areas. Apart from that, the trek also provides most spectacular views of snow-covered mountains while also allowing close interaction with the different ethnic groups living in high hills scattered along the trek route.

We have travelled many places around the world and prefer to use local companies. After some Internet searching I came across Skyline treks. They put together a great itinerary for us. We travelled for 5 weeks in Nepal including treking to Annapurna base camp, rafting the Seti river, Chitwan National Park, and most of the local attractions around Kathmandu, Pokhara, and everywhere in between. We had a fantastic experience.
We have travelled as a private group with local companies and with international travel companies before. I have to say I much prefer local companies and Skyline treks in no exception. What you gain by traveling with local groups is getting to know people including your guides, drivers, and many people along the way. There is a much greater interaction with local people that will enrich your trip. Having the same driver and guides, porters etc over many weeks allows good friendships to be formed and for a much more personal trip. Raj, the owner of the company took great care of us. When the going got tough on the abc trek with ice and snow, there was always a helping hand. We always had hot drinks shortly after arriving at the tea houses. Go and have a great adventure in Nepal with skyline treks if you haven't been or try them if you are returning. We would love to return in the future to see more of this charming country and friendly people.
