Sun Koshi River Rafting Overview
Sun Koshi River Rafting, listed as one of world top river journey, this 235 km rafting action on the Sun-Koshi river is usually 9 days long. However, the duration largely depends on the time of the year or season. This is the most fascinating and longest white water rafting that Nepal has to offer.
The Sun Koshi River Rafting trip starts from ‘Dumja’, which is about 3 hours’ drive from east of Kathmandu. The scenery explored during the trip is ever-changing ranging from mountains, dense forests, and open valleys to small ethnic villages, making it extremely exciting and different. The rapids met at the beginning of the river trip are fairly relaxed class 3, giving an excellent opportunity for great teamwork to really develop.
Trip is great for both intermediate and advanced kayakers consisting of challenging rapids throughout the trip. After completing the rafting you can either drive to ‘Biratnagar’, take a flight to Kathmandu, drive to Chitwan national park or Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. The trip can be combined with so many fun events to make it even more memorable.

We have travelled many places around the world and prefer to use local companies. After some Internet searching I came across Skyline treks. They put together a great itinerary for us. We travelled for 5 weeks in Nepal including treking to Annapurna base camp, rafting the Seti river, Chitwan National Park, and most of the local attractions around Kathmandu, Pokhara, and everywhere in between. We had a fantastic experience.
We have travelled as a private group with local companies and with international travel companies before. I have to say I much prefer local companies and Skyline treks in no exception. What you gain by traveling with local groups is getting to know people including your guides, drivers, and many people along the way. There is a much greater interaction with local people that will enrich your trip. Having the same driver and guides, porters etc over many weeks allows good friendships to be formed and for a much more personal trip. Raj, the owner of the company took great care of us. When the going got tough on the abc trek with ice and snow, there was always a helping hand. We always had hot drinks shortly after arriving at the tea houses. Go and have a great adventure in Nepal with skyline treks if you haven't been or try them if you are returning. We would love to return in the future to see more of this charming country and friendly people.
